I Don't Know How to Not Hate My Body

Ughhh, what an uncomfortable and distressing feeling.

The first thing I want you to know is that you are not alone in hating your body. So many people are in the same exact spot as you. Heck, even I've been in that spot.

There are so many messages society tells us about how our bodies should be. Here's a maybe not too big secret, no matter who you are or what you do, you will never be happy with your body if you're putting all of your worth into how you look (or how you perceive you look).

We can blame society all we want. We can know we've been brainwashed into thinking something is wrong with us. But at the end of the day, our feelings about ourselves seem to be the thing that is taking control of the wheel.

So what in the world are we supposed to do about it? How are we just supposed to stop believing the messages we've been told our entire life?

First things first, Take a breath. You do not need to figure this entire thing out today. This is where you are in your journey and that is completely okay. Patience is key!

Secondly, Be aware. Be aware of the types of messages you're telling yourself. It's easy for us to go through the day talking crap about ourselves and not even know how often or what things we are saying to ourselves. We can't change our thoughts if we aren't aware of them.

When you are feeling really down about your body. Take a minute and ask yourself what is really going on. What triggered you to start hating your body at this moment? More often than not, when we are really hating ourselves, it's a sign something else is going on.

Lastly, find others who are going through the same journey. This could be through a support group or by following body-positive social media influencers. You are what you surround yourself with. If you surround yourself with people who constantly put down their body, you're going to start putting down your body.

Remember, your relationship with your body will change as you go through life. Focus on what you need to do to take care of you today.
